Every team member worked from behind their laptop in the attic, study, or living room, causing the online meetings to be as short as possible and very much to the point. Which is not a bad thing per se, but the informal chats when entering the so-manieth conference room holding a warm paper cup are missed more sorely than we could have imagined. Yet, we also found new and inventive ways to bring team members closer to each other, even so emotionally inspiring that there are some keepers.

As a coach within often large organizations I knew very well how important it is to make informal connections for the formal functioning of teams. People don’t work as robots and that is a good thing. Our ingenuity is our strength and that’s what we like to stimulate. Psychologists have told us many years ago already that a relaxed and playful mindset have a positive effect on our problem-solving capabilities. Au contraire to previous centuries, nowadays every modern coach will appreciate and stimulate the chats at the water cooler…
