Modern Leadership
“Modern” leadership seems actually quite the opposite of what is being advocated so plentiful.
I see a huge discrepancy between what’s being advocated on LinkedIn and organizational websites versus what’s happening in the real world when it comes to leadership.
On LinkedIn and other websites, I see plenty of stories advocating modern leadership styles, with “modern” meaning collaborative and empathetic. Modern leaders are expected to engage with teams, have lots of emotional intelligence, promote inclusivity, favor transparency and ethical leadership, act empowering and coaching, be self-aware, adaptable, and less hierarchical.
In the meantime, in real life, Donald Trump has won the US elections, big time.
People must have known what they voted for; Trump has not been unclear about his dictatorial intentions.
I think the reality on the ground in the US, Europe, and basically all over the globe shows us that, in practice, “modern” leadership is actually quite the opposite of what is being advocated so plentiful. People like Trump, Putin, Xi, Orbán, Modi, Wilders, Le Pen, Meloni, etc., are far from empathetic, ethical, or empowering inclusively. Apparently, this is what modern-day people all over the world appreciate and want for themselves: a strong unapologetic leader that tells them what to do, and what not to do.
