Neuroscience Is The Holy Grail!

The exciting field of neuroscience is the key to all psychological answers! Well, at least it seems that way.

You wouldn’t know it from reading the many articles related to neuroscience in the last few decades, but neuroscience itself dates back thousands of years. The ancient Egyptians already had some notion of the physical anatomy of the nervous system.

To be precise about it, the nervous system consists of more than just the brain. The central nervous system is defined as the brain together with the spinal cord, while the rest of the network of neurons throughout the body is called the peripheral nervous system.

Typical neurons consist of a cell body (called soma), with a nucleus, dendrites, and a single axon with axon terminals. A soma uses its dendrites to receive signals. The signals are sent through the axon — which can be as long as one meter or more in a human body — to the axon terminals. There the signals go through a synapse to another cell, which could be another neuron, a muscle cell, a gland cell, et cetera. Thus, a signal can start in your brain, go through several different neurons…
