Thinking yourself out of a depression

One of the common themes between NLP and NLP-derived methods — like for instance the work of famous motivational coach Tony Robbins — is the presumption that people who suffer from depression got themselves in their depression by thinking in a particular way — a wrong way — and that they should be able to think themselves out of their depression as well — of course with the help from the (NLP) therapist who knows exactly how to do that.
Robbins, in multiple of his performances that you can find on the internet, chides renowned comedian and actor Robin Williams, who died of suicide invoked by his lifelong depression, for being a total failure. The reasoning of Robbins is that success without fulfillment is the ultimate failure, and the fault of the failure lies within the thinking of the person. How one chooses to think about the circumstances that the person may find themselves in, is the pinnacle of the matter, according to Robbins. He adds to that, “fulfillment is not a science, it’s art.”
